Rights Respecting Schools Award
Our pupil voice groups, Rights Respecting steering group and everyone in school showed their commitment to Respecting the rights of the child. We are very proud to be a Rights Respecting: Gold School.
“Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate. Signs are used, with speech, in spoken word order. Using signs helps when people have no speech or when speech is unclear. Signs and symbols can be used to support communication in many different ways. Makaton is used regularly in schools to support all children to develop communication, language and literacy skills.”
Mrs Allen leads Makaton across the school, beginning in Nursery and Reception. Children are keen to be involved and use signing skills where they can. Children across school can sign and are taught through song, unless there is a specific need.
We have successfully been awarded with our 7th Basic Skills Award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to raise standards in reading, writing and maths.
This award and recognises the hard work and commitment we have to working with partners around the world, as well as teaching about other cultures.
