Makaton Friendly

“Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate. Signs are used, with speech, in spoken word order. Using signs helps when people have no speech or when speech is unclear. Signs and symbols can be used to support communication in many different ways.  Makaton is used regularly in schools to support all children to develop communication, language and literacy skills.”

Mrs Allen leads Makaton across the school, beginning in Nursery and Reception. Children are keen to be involved and use signing skills where they can. Children across school can sign and are taught through song, unless there is a specific need.
